Doch-Orte (Nonetheless Places)

Photo series and exhibition (2013)

The project is a photographic exploration of the concept of "non-places," as defined by French anthropologist Marc Augé. While Augé describes airports, airplanes, and other transit spaces as places without history, relation, or identity, my work seeks to challenge and expand upon this idea.

The photographs taken from airplane windows depict cloudscapes and city silhouettes, creating a surreal utopia—spaces that became sanctuaries for me. Complementing these images is a contrasting series of negative-developed photographs showing abandoned urban landscapes and scenes of decay. These darker images represent the reality I wanted to escape from, offering a negative imprint of my imagined world.

"Doch-Orte" was my first professional exhibition and marked my transition from acting to visual art in 2013 at the VOLUME Gallery in Berlin. This project intertwines my search for tranquility amid constant movement with a dialogue between utopia and dystopia, all while probing the ever-present question of identity.

"Like an air bubble in water, you can rise to layers of the sky where human contradictions dissolve. With a blink, you can slow down the flight of flocks. You can see the chemistry of the sky bubbling in all directions. But you cannot touch them, the clouds, melting like ice under the red setting sun."
