[R]Leuchtungskiste (Enlightenment Device) – Exhibition at Frizz Gallery Berlin
Light Sculpture Constructed of Acrylic Glass and Electronic Components – A text by Erikas IngberThe [R]Leuchtungskiste is a multilayered and ironic reflection on contemporary approaches to spirituality and technology. This sculptural light object, constructed from acrylic glass and equipped with 324 LEDs wired through a network of gray and green cables, playfully challenges viewers to engage with the concept of »enlightenment.«
Suspended horizontally against a dark background, the box reveals its full effect in a clinical space emphasizing the object's technical character. The network of lights and cables projects a hypnotic pattern onto the surrounding walls, amplified by the reflective rear panel. The impression of an endless tunnel draws viewers in and simultaneously invites them to think within the structures of the box, exploring the limitless possibilities and perspectives beyond the physical boundaries of the work.
The construction and arrangement of components evoke a »Simple Machine.« However, what appears simple conceals a deeper message: there is no »quick fix« for enlightenment, no shortcut in spiritual development. Thus, the [R]Leuchtungskiste functions as a spiritual joke, offering a subtle critique of the fast-paced and superficial nature of modern esoteric offerings.

The artist reflects through this work the notion that »everything can be sold in a capitalist system, including enlightenment.«
In a world where seemingly everything can be commercialized—even enlightenment for a symbolic euro—this work questions our relationship with spiritual promises and the technologies we use to achieve our goals. The craftsmanship involved in the object resembles a meditative practice, a kind of knitting with electronic components, where the process of creation becomes more significant than the final product.
By integrating incense sticks and ambient music, such as »Atlas« by Laurel Halo, the installation transforms into a multisensory experience that both stimulates reflection and conveys subtle irony.
The [R]Leuchtungskiste is not only a technically sophisticated piece but also a provocative invitation to question our expectations of spirituality and enlightenment.
