The Island

Photo book and exhibition (2022)

Photographies and book production

This series of images is much more to me than a photographic journey through Iceland—it is a visual exploration of my own inner world. During the pandemic, in the midst of a deep personal crisis, I found myself drawn to this rugged and desolate island not once, but twice. The first journey was driven by curiosity and a longing for space; the second was marked by the pain of a broken relationship. My camera became a therapeutic tool, helping me to capture the emptiness and grief while also creating room for new perspectives.

Iceland's landscape—with its stark volcanic fields, deep fjords, and ethereal light—mirrored my inner state. In the rocks, the moss, and the shifting clouds, I found what I was searching for within myself: moments of transformation, intimacy, and freedom. As I wandered through these landscapes, I created images that are more than mere documentation. They are staged expressions of my inner state, projections of my longings, and my ongoing search for identity and healing.

The Island is not a traditional landscape project but rather a dialogue between the external and the internal, between what is visible and what remains hidden. The photographs invite viewers to approach this threshold, where reality and fantasy blur, and nature becomes a mirror of the soul.
