CV

Born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Bavaria, Germany) in 1984, Andreas Tobias is an artist, photographer, designer and actor. He also creates books, exhibitions, objects and light installations. Among his artistic subjects are light, intimacy, staging, materiality, spirituality and physicality. He’s having a love affair with his creativity.

His professional career began in front of the camera, as an actor. At the age of 16 he moved to Hamburg to star in the TV series »Die Albertis«. While finishing his A levels, he was cast for a main role in »Frühlings Erwachen« (Spring Awakening) at Schauspielhaus Hamburg. He later joined the companies of Münchner Volkstheater and Theater Basel while continuing to take on roles for film, radio and TV productions.

In 2011, after more than 10 years in the acting business, he began to organise art exhibitions showing his own works. Following the wrap of the biographical drama film »Nanga Parbat«, he moved to Brussels for a year to study French.

During this time, he dedicated himself to the craft of photography, creating the light object series »Meine Eier« in 2011. He then moved to Berlin where he organised his first major exhibitions showing his photography (»DOCH-ORTE«, 2013) as well as light installations. As a photographer, his focus is on portrait, still life and landscape photography.

Along the way, he has worked as an editor for »FUTURZWEI Foundation« and »Der Theaterverlag«. He regularly lends his voice to radio plays, makes books and podcasts and runs a photo studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg. He is currently working on a book on crying.
